At Empower OT, we are celebrating Nnena Kalu, the first artist with a learning disability to win the Turner Prize 2025.

This is more than a personal achievement — it is a powerful moment for representation, inclusion, and justice for people with learning disabilities and autism.

Research shows that:

 - Only 6% of adults with learning disabilities in the UK are in paid employment.

 - Autistic people are less than half as likely to be employed as the general population.

 - Many face systemic barriers, prejudice, and limited opportunities in education, work, and creative fields.

Kalu’s win challenges these injustices, showing that creativity knows no bounds and that difference is a strength, not a limitation. Her recognition at the highest level sends hope and visibility to neurodiverse individuals everywhere.

Congratulations, Nnena Kalu — your achievement inspires us all.
